A cat

"As every cat owner knows,
no one really owns a cat"

A cat is a small animal with four legs, a tail and soft fur. People often keep it as a pet. (Or maybe it keeps them?)

The cat has an impressive "family." Lions, tigers, cheetahs and many others are his biological cousins.

Cats are usually very skilled hunters, and will pursue their prey fearlessly, but would nevertheless run away from water... (They clean themselves with their tongue!)

They have flexible, muscular bodies and highly developed senses.

Their night vision is especially good. The ears are large, and very sensitive to high-frequency sounds. They also possess a highly developed sense of smell, and a very useful sharp set of teeth!

Cats are able to land on their feet after a fall. This is a beautiful ability which combines both vision and a sense of balance.

They can be a dangerous predator, and together with that – a graceful companion.

Humans and cats have lived together for thousands of years, from the ancient Egyptians up to this day and age.

There are many different breeds of cats, and many more mixed breeds.

Cats like to sleep! Actually, they sleep more than most animals – usually 12-16 hours a day.

They also like to play. Now, this is especially true for kittens (young cats).
